How it works
The browser interprets the datetime-local value in the device's local zone. On every tick, the tool subtracts the current epoch milliseconds from the target, clamps a past result to zero, and decomposes the remainder into days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
Know before using
Limits and edge cases
- The target, running state, and remaining display are not persisted across a refresh, and the tool does not send notifications, play an alarm, or keep a background service alive.
- Presets add the named duration but store the target only to the minute, so up to almost 60 seconds can be truncated. Across daylight saving, 24 elapsed hours may also land at a different local clock hour.

Will the countdown stay accurate if the tab is in the background?
When the browser allows the next update, the display recalculates from the current clock instead of assuming every interval fired, so it catches up. A sleeping or closed browser cannot show or announce completion.
What does Pause do?
Pause freezes the displayed remainder by stopping clock updates; it does not move the target. Resuming recalculates against the real current time, so elapsed paused time is reflected immediately.
